I plugged MaximusBlack before when he was playing Deadspace so I figure I can link his entire playthrough of Season One and Season Two of the Video game playthroughs that he did. The link leads to his list. Horror and laughs, so enjoy!
Outlast was a survival horror game that proved highly successful last year, where you are a reporter trapped in an insane asylum. Needless to say, some crazy crap went down.
But now we have Outlast 2 coming out! Check the trailer!
A preview for an upcoming horror video game based off of the Resident Evil series, the game pits the player against zombies and infected animals that will try and murder you in a nasty fashion. There seems to be a multiplayer map of the village from Resident Evil 4, where you combat another team of mercenaries. Almost like any of the Call of Duty games that bring zombies into the battles.
This video game came online a few years ago, introducing a new type of horror game. I played the first one, where you have to manage your electricity while watching out for mechanical costumed characters that will try and kill you by shoving you into a spare suit.
The original created a few spin-offs, which inspired a song that I've been listening to for inspiration when writing horror as of late. It's Nightcore, which means it's techno, but give it a listen and see if you like the lyrics.
I wouldn't recommend the game for anyone who is faint of heart as it has a plethora of jump scares and a great sense of dread as the automatons slowly encroach on you, stalking you so they can jump you before the night ends.
For those of you with a strong enough stomach, you can get the game from here, where you can acquire a Steam gaming key for all four games.
This is the beginning of the end for console gaming, meaning a new frontier for fear and horror games! This should be ready to be launched for indie developers by May 2016. Soon we'll have immersive worlds through which we can swim in oceans, view nightmares come to life, and see the dead rise from the ground! Start pinching your penny's now folks...
A horror/survival game that is coming out October 7th, 2014, this title is boasting an advanced AI that will result in the enemy moving about in unpredictable routes, hunting you and changing its own strategies based on what you do.
Not my cup of tea, but my wife may play it. The main reason I never get into these kinds of games (Silent Hill, Dead Space, etc) is because they promise a smarter AI, which they never deliver upon. The game seems like it will be one long boss battle, as they describe it as having only one alien in the whole game versus Ripley's daughter. It could be good, but I somehow doubt it will be.
A new game coming out that looks like it will be taking advantage of a new movement engine for better, more fluid running and jumping. From the trailer it seems like this game is going to be a rather horrific zombie survival game that combines smart ways to handle the dead. Take a look:
Not a horror story, but more of an analysis on what fear
truly is. I’ve commented before in previous publications,
but true horror to me is something that is different with each person as it
grows, but it all spawns from the same tool.
Suspense.
Suspense is what separates the good horror from the bad,
allowing an author (or director) to craft a scene and plant the seeds of fear
in the reader (or viewers) mind. Once planted, the author can manipulate the
story however he pleases, so long as he watches his Crop of Fear. If used
properly, he can use Suspense to elicit a maximum amount of fear from a reader
with minimal effort.
Here is a fine example of how to use Suspense to create a
memorable moment, while also being scary on a psychological level.
View even if you do not
know the game, as the video also shapes and introduces the characters as
needed. A perfect showcase on how to use Suspense visually, in my eyes.
A pro-gamer playing an indie-game that is based all around the concept of terror. Watch for not onlu a good scare, but a few good laughs from his own commentary.
Based around the mythological creature that was invented by the internet called a Slender Man. My kind of horror :)
