Scary Schooldays Approaching

     If you haven't guessed my political leanings by now then you must be new. If you haven't guessed my spiritual beliefs than you are brand new. This coming Friday is the "Day of Silence," an event where students who believe bullying in schools based on sexual orientation should be stopped decide to opt out of speaking for the day, instead using their guaranteed rights to "voice" their own opinion in their own way.
     This of course caused (and still causes) a stir among the Far Right of our fair nation. While some suggest that you should keep your children at home this day, other organizations have taken this seemingly positive event and added a horrifying element to it.
     Proselytizing.
     The very word shakes me to my very core.
     

     These are cards that are handed out on this day by zealous students to any who are remaining silent in solidarity against bullying. I personally find it both hilarious and terrifying, as the God of the Bible is, at his kindest, an insane omnipotent grandfather.

     At his harshest he's the most prolific serial killer in supposed history, the supposed being added that all of this only matters if he is real, which I've yet to have someone present to me a claim or a piece of evidence that proves that there is a God, let alone a Christian God.

     But back to the terror, on the 19th some schools will become political battlegrounds between one of three factions: the silent kids, the kids handing out lame little cards and... the kids who stayed home. OK, so two factions. Should you be of High School age and reading my site, first of all shame on you, and second of all I hope you are one of the many who will avoid this mess altogether. School is a place of learning so please, for everyone's sake, learn!

An Interlude

     Perhaps one of my favorite foreign performers, Tim Minchin is an amazing musician that writes and performs songs that really make you think, or at the very least laugh. Now he tends to be a tad bit controversial over here in the states due to his rather, ahem, secular songs.

     I'm not a fan of religion in general, so I find this funny. As a Historian, I've found that religion is perhaps the most destructive and divisive ideas that we as a race have created when compared to every other idea or action. It's taken more lives than any war, and claimed more than a millennia of scientific thought and inquiry.

     I'm not saying that religion is all bad either, before the religious readers become overly-zealous; Some good has been done in the name of God, and that's great! But almost none of that good could only be accomplished by religion. Secular groups can do the acts of good just as easily as the religious groups.

     That's why I'm an Atheist I suppose.

Changes to the Site

     Under construction once again, should be adding a set of links to the side that show you all the series I have on this site and their beginnings. Hopefully I can change that into a drop down menu where you can read the chapters in a far easier fashion. If anyone is familiar with this website, drop a comment and let me know how to do this and I will be eternally grateful.

Evil Dead: A Review

     I had such high hopes for this movie, I truly did and in many ways, they were surpassed beyond even my imagination. But I still feel there could have been more to the movie, something to truly make it stand out beyond the rest of the standard possession movies on the market. If you have not seen the movie as of yet, I will be revealing a few key scenes from the film so you may want to stop reading as of now.

Pillar Chapter One, pt Two

Moving to the front door, he twisted the knob and pushed the door inwards, a small chime clicking to alert the shopkeeper that someone was at the front.

And a good thing she had the bell, because the shop itself was crammed to the brim with every kind of item imaginable, all haphazardly stacked or set up to display as the story widened out from the entrance. Lit by several sconces holding red wax candles, the entire room stank of a pungent incense that seemed to make the mercenary’s head feel lighter, almost to the point of dizziness.

Pillar Chapter One, pt. One

Shing wasn’t like the other major cities of Pillar, nor did it try and boast as such. Nestled atop Lake Lokinelli and the surrounding marshes, the floating buildings were interconnected by bridges and ladders that spanned the two and three story houses and shops that compromised the largest city in all of the Lower Ring. Those buildings not drifting in an interconnected series of rusted chains and frayed ropes were built of clay and stone, and served as what some would call the noble district.

Everyone that lived outside of it just referred to it as the Sepulcher; unlike the lush foliage that choked the Lower Ring, the Sepulcher was completely paved with perpetually cleaned stone, and ringed by towering walls of heavy granite. Those that lived within its walls, including the heads of the Merchants Guild which acted as the cities council of leaders, looked at their home as secure. Everyone else just looked at how the rich had pushed the vibrant life of the Lower Ring as far from them as possible, and laughed at the whims of those flush with gold.

Darkmoon Digest #11

     Another frightful tome of mayhem and mischief, with a lead story from your truly. An older tale from the darker reaches of my archives, one I simply call "Sinister Fruit".
     A story of the old American south... plantations, slavery and the like. But unlike most tawdry tales from that era, this one involves a monster of biblical proportions! Check it out here to find out more.
     As for how the site is headed, I'm going to be alternating between stories, seven or eight parts released in a period of time before a few short stories to liven these old bones up, before moving onto continuing the next of my many macabre manuscripts, just waiting to be read!

An Interlude

     I feel the need to add something a tad bit more light-hearted to my dark corner of the internet from time to time, and with a recent playlist visited I got to listen to a great song that made me laugh.

     While I write of fantastical things and horrible plots with nefarious characters, I always keep in mind that it's fantasy. Just fantasy. Fantasy can be a wonderful thing, but only when we don't take it as fact. There are no zombies, or Vampires or Gods or demons.
     Just people, insignificant bits of carbon trying to live their lives as best they can. 

     Sweet Dreams...

The Last Exorcism

     This series of films is, in a broad sense, a rather good experience. The first is more of a documentary focusing on a con artist who comes into contact with a real possession in the backwoods of Louisiana.

     A good movie, to be sure. Plenty of suspense, the acting was above par and the plot was fairly fresh and original, not just a rehashing of The Exorcist like so many others.
     Then along came a spider, and that spider was in the form of a sequel aptly dubbed The Last Exorcism Part II. A continuation of sorts from the rather abrupt ending that the first movie had given us.

     This movie was far worse than the original, which is somewhat the norm for sequels. It answers no real questions, just carries along a story that was complete even further than is necessary. The acting is once again decent, but the whole plot is a mess, with religious connotations merged into one another to create this horrid script of metaphors that are in so many ways not subtle and are yet too difficult to read and count.
     The series is alright, and since the original is on Netflix I definitely suggest seeing it. The second one, wait for it to come out on television. 

Evil Dead Remake

   
     The title says it all: a remake of one of my favorite horror movies of all time, and the source of so many cliche's that it is actually difficult to count them off. When I first heard this was going to happen, I instantly thought only negative things. But then I heard Bruce Campbell and Sam Raimi were involved in the movie making process, as producers and a co-writer of the script.
     This leaves me conflicted. We all know that remakes are generally worse than the original, but never before has a remake had the actual people who first made the movie involved in the process; maybe this one will be able to break the mold and turn from a horror/comedy cult classic into a truly terrifying piece of cinema?
