Dark Moon Digest #22

     Previous
Been a while since I spoke of Dark Moon Digest, though not for any ill reasons to speak of. I just haven't been submitting to them for roughly a year. They also ran Dark Eclipse Magazine, an online magazine that I was a columnist for roughly two years. When that shut-down, I'd submitted a lot of stories elsewhere and didn't have any to spare for the Digest. I know a weak reason not to send them any of my work. After all, they're the first place I was published with "Everybody Needs a Hobby", so I'll always have a special place in my heart for that disturbing publisher.
The reason I choose to shed some light on this topic is that as of January 3rd, Dark Moon Digest #22 was published and is now available for purchase online at Amazon (either for kindle or paperback). Just click the image to be whisked away to horror heaven!

Good News Everyone!

As many of you know, I've written for Dark Moon Digest before and acted as a recurring columnist for Dark Eclipse Magazine when it was in publication for a number of years. Well, Perpetual Motion Machine Publishing has taken over Dark Moon Digest while keeping the same Editors. The digest has even upped their pay rate from a flat $10/$15 dollars for stories to a payment of .01/word. While that may not sound like much, it is a huge leap for a press to go to a payment method such as this.
Speaking with the Editor during a friendly catch-up, she mentioned that they've been inundated with stories since the change, and they only have so many readers to review the stories. This may explain why your stories have not been touched in what seems like a longer than average time; the holidays plus day jobs equals less time to read and edit, let alone select what stories should be added to the next digest.
But Lori Michelle has said that with things becoming more stable with the passing of the holidays, the next Digest should be out in the first week of January. She's said she'll forward me the cover art so you can admire their artist's skill, but, for now, I'll just link up to the last issue that came out in October. I can say from experience the paperback is better than the Kindle as the weight of the actual book is just nice, as they've grown in size over time. But should you like a mobile way to stow multiple books, the Kindle route is pretty awesome too. The link is in the image below to the Amazon page where you can peruse the latest issues. Grab one if you want to submit for future publications: I know you hear it all the time, but reading what they publish really does paint a vivid picture of what they will accept.
I love the cover art for the issues, it's always so surreal. They ran out of traditional horror tropes by issue fifteen so they had to start coming up with more "creative" images for the reader to enjoy. This image makes me think of the machines operating in Hell, tormenting damned souls. I know the artist probably would tell me otherwise, but that's just what leaps to mind.
As for the rest of the week, I'll be updating a few stories that seem to be popular along with continued scary shorts. By Friday, I'll have a treat for you all that I hope long time readers will enjoy. Now if I recall, you can get a subscription to the Digest as well, and for a reasonable amount considering the amount of stories you get per issue.
Ah, here it is! You pay for three months at a time, 10.95 in a go that is drafted from your PayPal account. You can check it out here. Check it out, the only thing you have to lose is your mind!

Dark Eclipse #31

DE31

Another month, another Dark Eclipse! This month I discuss the true heroes of horror, the greats that lead to how we look at the genre as a whole. I of course could only touch on a few, but I think I touched on some of the greatest influences that we've had.
As for stories, I enjoyed it all, especially "Devils of Cain's Island" by Kris Ashton. For $1.99, it's definitely worth a read!

Dark Eclipse is Out!

The newest Dark Eclipse Magazine is out, and boy is it a screamer! I wrote about the new trend of horror-based television shows (American Horror Story, the Walking Dead, etc) and made certain to enjoy some of the finer short stories our fine publication had to offer.

Make sure to read Slice, a short story, and Snip, a flash fiction story!

A terrifying collection of tales to be certain, but I was remiss this past month and forgot to mention the previous Dark Eclipse where one of my short stories was published!
Beware the murder tree!!!

You can find the link to the most recent issue here and the link to the previous issue with my story "Jersey Devil" here! Go ahead and get 'em both and let the stories speak for themselves!
Also, my editor and fellow Horror writer Lori Michelle has a project up and running helping out those most in need: children with cancer.
A great anthology where all the proceeds help out charities for sick children!

Be sure to check it out on Amazon, as you can either get a paperback edition or a kindle one, both containing various stories and essays written by some of the top horror authors of today!

Darkmoon Digest #11

Another frightful tome of mayhem and mischief, with a lead story from your truly. An older tale from the darker reaches of my archives, one I simply call "Sinister Fruit".
A story of the old American south... plantations, slavery and the like. But unlike most tawdry tales from that era, this one involves a monster of biblical proportions! Check it out here to find out more.
As for how the site is headed, I'm going to be alternating between stories, seven or eight parts released in a period of time before a few short stories to liven these old bones up, before moving onto continuing the next of my many macabre manuscripts, just waiting to be read!
Stick around, add me as a favorite to your taskbar and check back every few days... I always have something new bubbling up from the black mire of my mind just waiting to scare you!

Dark Eclipse Magazine

Dark Eclipse Seventeen is available for all Kindle users out there drifting about this sea of life, just dying for a good bit of literature. For a mere $1.99, you can read several short tales of terror, read up on several good new novels and stories alike through the editorial staff's reviews (including my own reviews of what I consider to be some of the better "popular" authors within our delightful genre), as well as a delightful tribute and study of one of my personal influences, H.P. Lovecraft!

Go on then, go get a copy! Help breathe a fresh breath of life into the horror industry and support those that truly understand the meaning of fear.

As for me, I'll just go back to my own scribblings here in the dark. I have much to write and so little time for you all to read it all. For example, have any of you picked up the latest copy of the Digest like I have? I particularly enjoy the ending to "Wolf in Chains" myself, and "Orbital Decay" was frightfully fresh!

Ah well, I digress... back to the pit for me. You know what they say... "No rest for the wicked!"

     Sweet Dreams
